Our Story

Born in the Andes.
Brewed in Adelaide.

STND. stands for standard. This is the story of how a Colombian living in Adelaide built the coffee he couldn't find — and decided to share it with the country he now calls home.

The Story & The Origin

Two chapters.
One standard.

Colombian by origin
Australian by choice
Nine years and counting

Nine years ago, I moved from Colombia to Australia. What I couldn't pack — but couldn't leave behind either — was the way Colombians live with coffee. It isn't a habit. It's a language. It's how we say good morning, how we make space for someone at the table, how we slow time down when there's something worth talking about. Coffee, where I'm from, is home.

What I found here in Adelaide was a coffee culture I came to love. Cafés on every corner. Baristas who treat espresso like craft. A whole country that takes its flat white seriously. Honestly, I get it. Australia knows how to drink coffee.

But something was missing.

Real Colombian coffee — the kind I grew up with — was either nowhere to be found, or sold at a price that made it feel like a luxury. The capsules? Most claimed Colombian. None of them tasted like it.

So I built what I couldn't find.

STND.CAFÉ is the coffee I always wanted to drink in Australia. Real Colombian coffee, brought straight from where it should come from — capsules built on single-origin Castillo Arabica. And for those who want to explore further, beans crafted as multi-origin blends, with each region chosen for what it adds to the cup. All roasted with intention. All priced like the everyday essential it is — not a luxury. No marketing tricks. No shortcuts. Just real coffee, properly sourced, at a standard every drinker deserves.

"A bit of home, in every cup."

Our first imported coffee came from Sonsón, Antioquia. The cup it produced wasn't just impressive — it set the bar for everything that came after. Every blend, every bean, every capsule we add to the range still answers to the standard born here. This is the origin of our standard, in every sense of the word.

Sonsón sits in the eastern Andes of Antioquia at elevations between 1,600 and 2,000 metres. The conditions here — cool mountain air, volcanic soil, steady rainfall — don't just produce good coffee. They produce what Colombian coffee is supposed to be.

The Castillo variety was developed by Colombia's own Cenicafé institute for exactly these conditions. Clean, consistent, naturally disease-resistant — it's a variety built for quality without chemical dependency. That's not a bonus. That's the standard.

We work directly with smallholder farmers in Sonsón because fair trade isn't a marketing badge — it's part of what makes the coffee worth drinking. If the people growing it aren't treated right, the standard hasn't been met.

  • Castillo Arabica — bred for Colombian Andean conditions by Cenicafé
  • Grown at 1,600–2,000m in Sonsón, Antioquia
  • Naturally disease-resistant — lower pesticide use, cleaner cup
  • Direct trade with responsible smallholder farms
  • Shade-grown and ethically harvested
"Colombia has always produced coffee this good. We just think more people should be drinking it. That's the standard we're setting."

Beyond Colombia

Two blends.
Five origins.
